A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TOOL MAKER
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models.
- Design, construct, repair, and maintain tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and molds.
- Operator machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machinery.
- Assemble and fit parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinist's hand tools.
- Test completed tools and dies to ensure they meet specifications.
- Modify tools and dies to meet new requirements or improve functionality.
- Inspect and measure completed products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair tools, dies, and related machinery.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree or certification in tool and die making is preferred.
- Apprenticeship or formal training in tool and die making.
- Experience with machine tools and precision measurement instruments.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Knowledge of CNC programming and operation is an asset.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience with manual mills, lathes, and grinders.
- Wire EDM sinker machines experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
