- Review Methods documents to ensure producibility of tool or die and provide estimates of labor hours for construction as required
- Determine and order the raw materials required to build tool or die
- Assemble tools and dies using and interpreting a variety of precision measurement equipment to ensure compliance with Engineering specifications
- Troubleshoot and coordinate with Engineering, Tool Design, Production, and/or Methods to resolve problems pertaining to the successful construction of a tool or die design How to thrive in this role?
- Typically 7 years conventional machining, sheet metal, fabrication, or related experience, which must include 5 years experience in tool and die construction
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering, Methods, and Tool Design documents
- Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments
- Ability to set-up and operate various shop machines, for example mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, table routers, power hand tools, and heat treat oven
- Mechanical skills
- Basic knowledge of safety requirements for tool and die construction
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of individuals and departments
- Basic knowledge of trigonometry, geometry, and algebra
