Tool and Die Maker Job Description The Tool and Die Maker designs, fabricates, assembles, maintains, and repairs precision tools, dies, gauges, fixtures, and other production tooling to support manufacturing operations. This role combines advanced machining skills with the ability to read detailed blueprints and technical documents, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Design, build, modify, repair, and maintain tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, and related production tooling to meet precise specifications. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and other technical documents to ensure accurate tooling fabrication and repair. Operate CNC and manual machines, including mills, lathes, grinders, EDM equipment, and drill presses, to produce and service tooling components. Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to verify dimensions and ensure tooling accuracy. Diagnose and resolve tooling and process issues to reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and support consistent production quality. Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to support stamping, molding, and other manufacturing operations. Maintain accurate records of tooling, including documentation, revisions, and preventive maintenance logs. Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and housekeeping practices within the toolroom and on the production floor. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling performance, cost reduction, and overall operational efficiency. Essential Skills 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Tool and Die Maker or in a related precision machining role. Completion of a Tool and Die apprenticeship or equivalent technical training. High school diploma or GED. Strong knowledge of metals, tooling materials, heat treatment, and machining processes. Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T. Proficiency in manual machining, including operation of mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment. Experience with tool and die work, including die repair and maintenance. Ability to operate and troubleshoot CNC machinery; CNC experience preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with stamping and molding tooling. Familiarity with CAD models and technical documentation related to tooling design. Experience in diagnosing and correcting tooling-related process issues in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering, production, and quality. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Saint Louis, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $72800.00/yr.
