Job Description

Pilot Mountain Arms is looking for a Gunsmith to become part of our team. We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and skilled Gunsmith to repair, modify, and build various types of guns. The Gunsmith's responsibilities include building custom rifles and handguns, safely test-firing guns, and repairing or modifying customer guns. You should also be able to file and polish gun components without causing damage. To be successful as a Gunsmith, you should be cautious, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable of gun control laws. Ultimately, an outstanding Gunsmith should be able to safely use various gunsmithing tools as well as demonstrate excellent mechanical and metalworking skills.
Gunsmith Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate records as required by BATF. Inspect customers' guns to identify any mechanical problems. Conduct proper set up and machining operations on lathe and CNC mill. Design and construct guns according to customers' specifications. Modify or adapt factory-made guns to customers' specifications. Repair damaged gun components and fix gun malfunctions. Replace the barrels on existing rifles to change the caliber, correct accuracy problems, alter the overall rifle weight, or provide a customized look. Refinish gun barrels and various gun components to prevent rusting. Attach optical sights, pistol grips, or recoil pads to various guns.
Gunsmith Requirements:
High school diploma or GED. Successfully pass criminal background check and drug screening. Completion of an accredited 2 year Gunsmith or Machinist training program. Sound knowledge of gun control laws and gun safety. The ability to safely use gunsmith hand tools such as grinders, sanders, files and stones. The ability to conduct machining operations safely and accurately. The ability to read blueprints and parts diagrams. The ability to accurately measure using tools such as dial calipers, micrometers and thread pitch gauges. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Basic computer skills and the ability to reply to emails and navigate social media efficiently. Exceptional communication and customer service skills. Must be able to conduct moderate physical activity. Job requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Repeatedly bending and lifting things from floor to shelves at eye level. Available most weekdays, some evening and/or weekend hours may be required as business dictates.
