Job Description

Class "A"
Tool & Die Maker Location:
Akron, OH Pay Range:
$35 - $45 / hour Role Summary As a Journeyman-level Tool & Die Maker, you will perform high-precision machining and hand operations to construct, repair, and maintain complex dies, tools, jigs, gauges, and fixtures. You will work independently under the direction of the Departmental Foreman to ensure production excellence and tool longevity.
Core Responsibilities Construction & Repair:
Build and maintain all types of precision tools, dies, and fixtures from blueprints or custom sketches.
Machining & Hand Finishing:
Operate lathes, grinders, drill presses, and shapers. Perform manual filing, grinding, and stoning to meet exact tolerances.
Die Try-Outs:
Set up dies and operate presses to run sample parts; adjust press rams, air cushions, and automatic feeds as needed.
Heat Treating & Welding:
Perform heat-treating on tools/dies and execute necessary welding repairs (if capable).
Process Management:
Select proper materials, determine machining sequences, and perform all shop mathematics required for the build.
Requirements & Skills Certification:
Must be a certified Journeyman .
Technical Expertise:
Advanced ability to read blueprints, create templates, and interpret customer prints.
Equipment Proficiency:
Expert use of hand tools, machine tools, and precision measurement gauges.
Operational Skills:
Ability to drive a Hi-Lift (forklift) and maintain a clean, safety-compliant workspace.
Efficiency:
Proven ability to work independently and meet estimated timeframes for complex repairs. Materials & Environment Work with various machine and tool steels, abrasives, and cutting oils. Ensure high-quality standards for all components produced.
