As a Toolmaker, you will play a vital role in fabricating, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures that support our manufacturing operations. Responsibilities Review blueprints, sketches, models, and written descriptions to determine required materials and machining processes. Provide design input and, when needed, design simple fixtures and jigs. Compute dimensions, plan layouts, and determine assembly methods and operational sequences. Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining. Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, CNC milling machines, and grinders, to machine parts. Verify that machined parts meet specifications and quality standards. Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables. Use power grinders and perform fitting and assembly of parts. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of assembled parts. Develop specifications for specialty tools and prepare sketches or drawings as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Supervisor or Manager. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or completion of a two-year college or technical school program preferred. Six months to one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical procedures, and written instructions. Proficiency in setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, CNC milling machines, and grinders. Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and apply basic algebra and geometry. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effective communication skills for presenting information and responding to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions. Physical ability to stand for extended periods (up to 80% of the time), lift and carry up to 25 lbs., and perform tasks requiring grasping, reaching, stooping, crouching, and bilateral hand and foot use. Work Environment Exposure to noise levels up to 90 decibels. Work in temperatures ranging from 50°F to 95°F. Possible exposure to dust, fumes, vapors, and mists.
