Position Summary The Die Maker is responsible for reading specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating dies; verifying dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance using instruments such as calipers, mics. Fits and assembles parts to repair or modify dies using machine tools and hand tools; conducts test runs with completed dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making necessary adjustments; inspects finished dies for conformity and defects.
Responsibilities:
- Obtains job information, compares data with approved sample, plots and run each knife, verifies if die has counters or blankers available; measures, cuts, bridges and places crease rule, perforation knife and cut scores where needed. Labels die and stripper, logs information for future usage.
- Responsible for cutting die boards, ruling of die boards using rule bender
- Must be able to identify types of board and caliper of board.
- Responsible for the application of the waterjet or ejection rubber to the die board and male blanker.
- Routs, sands, adds fingers to female blanker.
- Completes preventative maintenance on both the Gerber Router Table and Rule Bender.
- Accountable for maintaining inventory of dies and blankers, Black Maxx Counter material, cut and crease rule and all other die making supplies.
- Destroys obsolete dies according to established SOP.
- Maintains work area in organized, clean manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Converting Manager.
- Works proactively to promote teamwork at all levels of the company.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures and instructions.
- Performs all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all PPEs to perform duties.
- Willing to work flexible hours as necessary.
Skills & Abilities:
- Good computer skills; must be able to retrieve data files and follow instructions as well as data input.
- Mechanical aptitude, including experience with machine shop equipment (grinder, mill, drill press, etc).
- Problem solving skills.
- Oral and written communication skills to include effective listening.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Excellent attendance.
- Measurement interpretation and mathematical knowledge, including reading English and metric tape or rule, experience with standard measuring instruments (micrometer, caliper).
- A background ruling a die is a plus.
Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Previous experience with steel rule die making including bending, cutting and notching and/or pre make ready.
- 1 to 2 years of work related experience in a die tooling manufacturing environment preferred.
Equipment:
- Tape or rule, English and metric.
- Mics, calipers, hand tools.
- Counter cutting machine (Gerber).

AMS Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform physical activities that require use of arms and legs, moving body, such as lifting up to 50 pounds repeatedly, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
