Job Description

Job Overview As a toolmaker, your job entails planning, constructing, altering, and repairing a wide variety of tools, dyes, fixtures, and machinery where accurate relationship and fitting requires maintenance of very close tolerances. Perform all duties necessary to the efficient operation of all equipment in the plant. Responsibilities Must be able to operate all tool room equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, etc. Construct tools, jogs, fixtures, and special machines from drawings or where there is little or no design available Use those constructed tools to diagnose and correct problems Set-up and operate all tool room equipment, including but not limited to a mill lathe, CNC equipment and EDM Be willing to attend training courses in job related topics and equipment, to then communicate that training to others Must use constant care in safety precautions when constructing, altering, or debugging special machinery Actively participate in department and process team activities and projects Other duties may be assigned at a later time Must be capable of following and meeting standard work requirements Must be able to use computer programs to assist in recording data, making labels, printing tooling layouts, obtaining prints and specifications, printing ship-sets, etc. Promote positive teamwork Able to foster professionalism with all associates along with internal and external customers Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S. Qualifications High School diploma or GED Journeyman Card in Tool & Die preferred Journeyman Card in Machining Currently in Journeyman Apprentice program with min. of 2 years of machining work Successful completion of a 4-year formal apprenticeship program (Journeyman Toolmaker) Min 3 years of experience in Tool & Die working on maintaining form tooling work Min 3 years experience as machinist as machine operator running manual and CNC machines making tooling and custom parts 5-7 years of related experience is a strong plus EDM experience desired Limited heat treating and welding desired Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills Sound decision making skills Good math, reading and writing skills Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual and audio attention Basic computer skills
