Job Description

Sanitation Supervisor Position Summary The Sanitation Supervisor provides hands-on leadership and oversight for all plant sanitation operations, ensuring the facility, equipment, and production areas are cleaned and sanitized in compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for supervising sanitation personnel, maintaining sanitation effectiveness, supporting production readiness, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Sanitation Supervisor plans, assigns, and directs daily sanitation activities to ensure a safe, clean, and compliant manufacturing environment while meeting cost, quality, and safety objectives. This position ensures compliance with Company policies, OSHA regulations, GMPs, HACCP, FSMA, SSOPs, and
FSSC 22000
standards. Key Responsibilities Sanitation & Operational Leadership Oversee overall performance of sanitation operations with a focus on Food Safety, Quality, Safety, Cost Control, and Employee Engagement. Plan and schedule sanitation activities to support production requirements and optimize labor, equipment, and cleaning resources within budgetary guidelines. Assign, direct, review, and monitor the work of sanitation personnel to ensure timely and effective completion of cleaning and sanitation tasks. Communicate daily sanitation objectives, expectations, and priorities to sanitation team members. Coordinate with Production, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance departments to ensure equipment and production areas are properly cleaned and ready for operation. Partner with Maintenance to identify equipment conditions that impact sanitation effectiveness and schedule corrective actions as needed. Monitor sanitation supply inventory and ensure adequate availability of chemicals, tools, and cleaning materials. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Enforce GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, FSMA, and Company food safety and quality standards. Ensure compliance with
FSSC 22000
food safety requirements and customer sanitation expectations. Verify effectiveness of sanitation procedures through inspections, environmental monitoring programs, ATP testing, and pre-operational assessments. Review and maintain sanitation records, chemical usage logs, environmental monitoring results, and sanitation verification documentation. Investigate sanitation-related nonconformities and implement corrective and preventive actions. Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, customer audits, and third-party certification audits. Implement sanitation improvements that enhance food safety, quality, and operational efficiency. Equipment & Process Management Direct cleaning, sanitation, and verification activities for production equipment, processing systems, packaging lines, and facility infrastructure. Ensure proper chemical handling, dilution, storage, and application procedures are followed. Evaluate sanitation processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction. Develop and update sanitation procedures, work instructions, and cleaning schedules. Facilitate team-based problem-solving efforts related to sanitation effectiveness and environmental control. Leadership & Employee Development Provide leadership, coaching, and development to sanitation personnel. Train employees on sanitation procedures, food safety requirements, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback to team members. Address employee concerns and administer corrective action as necessary in accordance with company policy. Promote a positive work environment that supports employee growth, accountability, and teamwork. Administer company policies in partnership with Human Resources. Safety & Compliance Provide safety training and enforce safe working practices at all times. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, chemical safety requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable laws. Investigate and document near misses, workplace incidents, and sanitation-related safety concerns before shift end. Promote a strong safety culture to reduce injuries and incidents. Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe chemical handling practices. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental Health, or related field OR minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing sanitation. HACCP certification preferred. PCQI certification preferred. Demonstrated experience in sanitation supervision within a food manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of food safety systems including GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, FSMA, and
FSSC 22000.
Knowledge of sanitation chemicals, environmental monitoring programs, and sanitation validation/verification processes. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities.
