• Full-time Sussex County is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Director of Environmental Services to help manage and advance our critical water and wastewater operations.

What You'll Do:

✔ Supervise and support a team of technical staff ✔ Oversee daily operations of water/wastewater facilities ✔ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations ✔ Lead emergency response and on-call operations ✔ Assist in managing budgets, assets, and procurement ✔ Represent the department in meetings and regulatory interactions ✔ Play a key role in capital improvement and facility expansion projects

Qualifications:

✅ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Environmental Science ✅ 7-8 years of experience in water/wastewater operations (or equivalent) ✅ Leadership and supervisory experience (union experience a plus!) ✅ Familiarity with SCADA systems, GIS tools, and environmental permits (NPDES, LTS, APC) ✅ Level IV Wastewater Operator certification preferred
