Job Description
This part-time, will-call position supports the 24/7 operation of the Water Treatment and Reuse Plants. Under the direct supervision of a certified Plant Operator, the incumbent learns and assists with the efficient operation and control of plant processes and equipment. Responsibilities include operating and monitoring water treatment systems, documenting operational data for process control and regulatory compliance, and supporting routine maintenance and safety practices. The position requires flexibility to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Assist certified Plant Operators in the operation and control of Water Treatment and Reuse Plant processes and equipment. Operate and monitor pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, membranes, and other water treatment equipment. Observe, interpret, and document plant operational data to support process control and regulatory compliance. Perform routine laboratory chemical tests for process control and troubleshooting purposes. Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in support of a 24/7 operation. Perform minor equipment maintenance and routine housekeeping duties. Follow established safety procedures and promote a safe work environment. Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Perform related duties and other job responsibilities as assigned. Education High school diploma or equivalent required Additional college-related education preferred Must have passed and submit proof of an approved State of Florida pre-requisite training course to sit for the State of Florida Class "C" Drinking Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certification exam. Experience Knowledge of, or ability to learn, water treatment operations, including pumps, instrumentation, chemical feed systems, and related plant equipment Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and treatment processes Knowledge of chemistry and laboratory procedures related to water treatment preferred Ability to monitor systems, identify operational issues, and take corrective action Ability to maintain accurate readings, records, and perform basic mathematical calculations Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required; experience with maintenance software and SCADA systems preferred Microsoft Office testing will be administered during the selection process Key Competencies Strong communication, recordkeeping, and basic math skills Ability to learn and operate water treatment systems and equipment Ability to monitor operations, identify issues, and take corrective action Proficiency with Microsoft Office; SCADA and maintenance software experience preferred Ability to distinguish colors, shades, and brightness Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and moderate to high noise conditions Ability to work around chemicals, machinery, and other industrial hazards while using required PPE Ability to see, hear, speak, and operate equipment and controls effectively
Work Days/Hours :
