Job Description

Wastewater Collections Technician ll

In this position, employees perform manual work in the maintenance and repairs of gravity lines, force mains, lift stations, and plant facilities within the Wastewater Division. Install, replace, repair, and modify mechanical and electrical equipment in lift stations. Perform tasks using instrumentation, telemetry, and communication systems. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Field Operations Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Perform heavy manual labor such as: digging, lifting, placing pipes, laying pipes, etc in a field environment safely and efficiently. 2. Mows and weeds grassy areas using small equipment. 3. Assists in the maintenance and repairs of gravity lines, force mains, lift stations, and plant facilities. 4. Assists in repairing backed-up sewers, refurbishment of the collection system, and R&R operation of lift stations. 5. Perform maintenance and repair lift stations, check SCADA system, pull pumps, and provide electrical and mechanical repairs as needed. 6. Assist Lift Station Mechanics as needed. 7. Performs preventative maintenance as needed on various tools and equipment. 8. Operates heavy equipment such as tractor-trailer, backhoe, front-end loader, jet vac, and dump truck. 9. Ability to safely operate a boom crane truck. 10. Ability to perform line cleaning and CCTV inspection. 11. Complete daily work orders accurately, neatly, and timely. 12. Must be available to work in the event of a disaster to assist with recovery response efforts. (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 1. Knowledge of general wastewater maintenance tasks and procedures. 2. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions, noxious fumes, raw sewage, and bugs. 3. Ability to read, write, and follow directions 4. Ability to use a computer. 5. Ability to work independently, without close supervision and to make sound judgmental decisions. 6. Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position. 7. Skill in the operation of heavy equipment. 8. Ability to anticipate, recognize and evaluate employee exposure to hazardous substances or other unsafe conditions in a confined space. 9. Ability to install replace, repair, and modify mechanical and electrical equipment, including but not limited to pump valves, regulators, actuators, control panels, communication systems, and motor controls. 10. Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekend duty, work rotating emergency stand-by, and emergency callouts.
Education and Experience:
1. High school graduate or possession of acceptable equivalency diploma. 2. Three (3) years related manual labor and mechanical, and electrical experience preferred. (A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
1. Must possess a valid Florida driver's License. 2. Ability to obtain a Florida Class "B" CDL with tank endorsement within 6 months of employment. 3. A Class "C" Wastewater Collection Technician Certification. 4. Must possess an Intermediate MOT certification card or obtain it within a set time. 5. Ability to obtain Fats, Oil, & Grease Management Certification within a set time.
Essential Physical Skills:
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Moderate to heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying
  • Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, climbing, driving

  • Works outside in various weather conditions with dust, dirt, fumes, raw sewage, and bugs.
