The Role We are looking for our next Utilities Environmental Team Leader to join our Utilities & Environmental team. This role is responsible for managing the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Bulk Chemical trans-loading area while ensuring compliance with all Federal and State environmental regulations. The Utilities Environmental Team Leader will oversee Bargaining Unit employees, manage operational and maintenance activities and budgets, and lead continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, environmental compliance, and plant performance. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, promote positive teamwork, and foster a collaborative team environment while driving operational excellence across the WWTP and Bulk Chemical operations. This position is located in Keokuk, IA. Compensation The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $110,000 - $132,000. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, qualifications, experience, and location. What You'll Do Manage the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Bulk Chemical trans-loading area in compliance with all Federal and State regulations
Lead and supervise Bargaining Unit hourly personnel through daily engagement across WWTP and Bulk Chemical operations
Investigate employee relations matters and collaborate with Human Resources to resolve behavioral and disciplinary issues in accordance with Company policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Drive continuous improvement in safety performance and provide training related to WWTP processes and procedures
Monitor WWTP operations and perform daily analysis of biological process health and system performance
Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to maintain plant efficiency and compliance
Manage and review daily, monthly, and annual regulatory reporting requirements in coordination with site environmental teams
Manage and review daily and weekly operations and maintenance checks
Develop and implement multi-shift operating plans for WWTP and Bulk Chemical operations through coordination with Bargaining Unit employees and shift supervision
Represent WWTP operational and asset health status during daily production meetings and coordinate proactive interdepartmental actions
Conduct periodic audits to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and company standards
Execute continuous improvement initiatives and develop and implement standard operating procedures
Serve as liaison between Engineering and Operations for WWTP and Bulk Chemical systems
Coordinate internal consultants and third-party support resources to enhance WWTP performance
Initiate maintenance work orders and coordinate scheduled and emergent maintenance activities with maintenance planners and team leaders to ensure timely completion
What You'll Need Education BS/BA degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related scientific discipline required; equivalent experience may be considered
WPI Standardized Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification preferred; Class IV certification strongly preferred
Experience Minimum of 3 years of experience in a wastewater treatment plant environment preferred
Strong understanding of WWTP processes and operations with demonstrated mechanical aptitude
Working knowledge of NPDES and Title V permits, HAZMAT requirements, and Process Safety Management principles
Minimum of 1 year of leadership and/or supervisory experience required; 3+ years preferred
Demonstrated ability to execute projects effectively; project management experience preferred
Demonstrated technical competence with laboratory equipment and data analysis to assess and communicate current and future process health
Proven ability to make sound independent decisions and work with minimal supervision
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with understanding of cause-and-effect principles
Demonstrated understanding and effective utilization of statistics
Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills
Moderate computer proficiency required
Strong organizational, planning, and multitasking skills
Ability to meet the physical demands of a manufacturing plant environment
Must be able to participate in on-call support for WWTP and Bulk Chemical operations
Supervisory Responsibility Direct supervision of Bargaining Unit hourly employees supporting WWTP and Bulk Chemical operations
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in hot, cold, and loud environments. Employee must be able to wear a respirator.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands.
Additional hours and on-call availability may be required to support WWTP and Bulk Chemical operational needs.
