Open Until Filled The City of Sandwich is seeking a qualified and dependable Water Plant Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, along with the flexibility to adapt to changing daily workflows in a dynamic environment. This position is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the municipal water system. Duties are varied and may change from day to day, requiring a proactive and detail-oriented approach. The Water Plant Operator reports directly to the Water Superintendent.Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily water plant operations and maintenance
- Collect water samples and conduct laboratory testing
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and operational data
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including fire hydrants, handheld meter-reading devices, buffalo box keys, and other tools
- Read water meters and complete route inspections using physical registers
- Perform utility locating services (J.U.L.I.E.)
- Inspect, repair, and replace water meters in residential settings
- Conduct filter backwashing and other treatment processes
- Assist with water system repairs and infrastructure maintenance
- Respond to emergency situations and communicate service interruptions to the public
- Provide support to other departments as directed
- Notify residents of water-related updates and service information
- Accurately document all work performed
- All other duties as assigned This role requires a hands-on individual who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and service for the community.
