UTILITY WORKER II POSITION DESCRIPTION I. POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs a variety of skilled work in maintenance, repair, and operation of the water system and equipment. Works under the general supervision of the Water Superintendent or their designee.II. SUPERVISION RECEIVED / EXERCISED
An individual in this position may exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned division employees.III. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs water distribution repairs, replacement, installation, and maintenance of equipment, including water main, valves, fire hydrants, service lines, and bboxes. Performs the hydrant maintenance program, including flushing, painting, lubricating, flow testing, exercising, and record maintenance of all hydrants. Performs the valve maintenance program, including mapping, exercising, and record maintenance of all valves. Performs requestedJ.U.L.I.E.
utility locating and maintains a record of the same for all Villageowned utilities. Records locations of service lines and water mains for mapping purposes. Performs snow and ice control duties as required throughout the Village. Maintains appropriate inventory level of equipment, parts, and supplies needed for scheduled and emergency situations on the water distribution system. Utilizes and ensures proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Responds to and resolves resident inquiries and complaints; investigates distribution system and water quality problems. Attends and participates in professional organization meetings. Responds to afterhours callbacks; prepares for and confronts emergency conditions as necessary to maintain efficient and effective Village services. Performs inspections of Villageowned equipment, identifies work requirements, and performs preventative maintenance actions to correct deficiencies and extend the useful life of the equipment.ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs periodic inspection, testing, record keeping, repair, and maintenance of wells, water towers, and treatment facilities. Performs landscape maintenance and repairs as they pertain to water distribution repairs. Installs and repairs water meters and remote reading devices; completes related work orders on an electronic device. Performs airline testing of wells; maintains records. Performs fire hydrant and water main flushing. Inspects water meters, remote devices, and bboxes at new construction sites; completes related work orders on an electronic device. Operates construction equipment and power tools such as a dump truck, skidsteer, concrete saw, sewer rodder, Sewer Jetter, Sewer Vac Truck, and mower, as well as maintains hand tools and assigned equipment. Performs snow and ice control duties as required throughout the Village. Performs any other duties as directed by the Water Superintendent or their designeeIV. QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent with three years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of potable water or sanitary sewer systems, or any combination of training and experience which provides equivalent knowledge, abilities, and skills. A valid Illinois Driver's License. A valid Illinois Class "D" Water Operator Certification within one year of hire. A valid Illinois Collection System Operator Certification within one year of hire.V. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES LANGUAGE ABILITY AND INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with coworkers, the public, and immediate supervisor.MATHEMATICAL ABILITY
Ability to calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.JUDGMENT AND SITUATIONAL REASONING ABILITY
Knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in potable water distribution operations. Knowledge of applicable I.E.P.A. regulations and requirements. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to the work schedule, needing little supervision. Ability to counsel, mediate, and provide firstline supervision.VI. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing movements required in the operation of construction equipment, including backhoes, skidsteers, end loaders, power saws, small and large trucks, and assorted tools commonly used in the maintenance of water systems. Ability to operate and perform repair tasks for extended periods of time under adverse conditions. Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, and textures associated with jobrelated objects, materials, and tasks. Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include climbing stairs/ladders, walking, crouching, crawling, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment, and lifting heavy objects.WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS
Ability to work safely with a variety of hazardous and toxic materials. Ability to perform work where environmental factors such as irate individuals, weather conditions, confined space entry and work in heights may cause discomfort.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The starting pay for a full-time, non-exempt Utility Worker II position is $28.96/hr to $33.39/hr DOQ. The starting pay for a full-time, non-exempt Water Operator position is $32.44/hr to $38.32/hr ($67,479 - $79,721/annual) DOQ.•] The position includes full benefits, including medical (BlueCross BlueShield of IL), dental, vision, and life insurance; voluntary supplemental life insurance; paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and more. The benefit package also includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) defined benefit retirement pension plan and the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. Actual starting pay is negotiable and depends on qualifications, experience, and professional achievement.WORK SCHEDULE
