Corydon, Indiana Position Overview The Town Sewer Operator is responsible for aiding in the Town of Corydon's wastewater treatment plant maintenance operations, including plant instrumentation control, maintaining proper flow rates and treatment processes, and operating treatment equipment. This position ensures reliable utility service, regulatory compliance, and the efficient operation and maintenance of town infrastructure. Key Responsibilities o Operate and monitor treatment equipment (i.e., pumps, motors, blowers, clarifiers, filters, and control panels). o Monitor plant instrumentation. o Collect wastewater, sludge, and effluent samples. o Perform lab tests (pH, ammonia, phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, solids, e-coli, TKN, and total nitrogen). o Adjust chemical feed rates (phosphorus removal). o Maintain proper flow rates and treatment processes. o Record operational data and maintain logs. o Maintain inventory of chemicals and supplies. Maintenance and Troubleshooting o Inspect equipment daily for proper operation. o Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs. o Identify mechanical or electrical issues and report major repairs. o Clean tanks, screens, and other process components. o Maintain pumps and lift stations. Additional Duties o Operate sludge dewatering equipment (belt press). o Handle biosolids processing and disposal. o Snow removal or ground maintenance (mowing and weed eating). Town of Corydon Sewer Operator o Required on-call rotation for emergencies. o Required rotating weekends and holidays. Standard Operating Procedures This position is to adhere to the Wastewater Standard Operating Procedures (SOP-WW001), a policy built focused on behavioral and work expectations including codes of conduct, protocols, directives, work instructions, and operating procedures. The principle of the policy is to reduce work risk and enhance efficiency within the department. Qualifications o High school diploma or GED required. o Valid driver's license with clean driving record. o Knowledge of sewer treatment, wastewater collection, and sewage equipment systems and maintenance techniques. o Obtain or ability to obtain Wastewater Operator Class 1 license. o Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. o Ability to respond to emergencies after hours, including weekends and holidays. o Keen hearing for identifying auditory defects or inconsistencies. o Basic knowledge of electricity and the required meters to install/repair and troubleshoot wiring and electrical equipment. o Must have the ability to read and accurately follow diagrams and detailed instructions to repair hydraulic and mechanical systems. o Must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to document lab findings, maintain records, and work with departmental personnel. Working Conditions o Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. o Exposure to noise, chemicals, confined spaces, and potentially hazardous conditions. o May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and operate heavy equipment, as needed. o Will be required to work in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA, IDEM, and Town standards. o Hard hat, safety vest, gloves, safety toe shoes, safety glasses, ear protection and gloves will be required, when necessary. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
