Job Description

Principal Function:
The Sewer Operator I is responsible for monitoring and operating wastewater treatment systems, and performing a variety of duties designed around the day-to-day operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and all other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to: 1. Performs inspections on the wastewater treatment plant, facility operations, and plant equipment for maintaining compliance with regulatory permit limits. 2. Initiates required adjustments or repairs as determined during wastewater plant operational malfunctions and/or breakdowns. 3. Performs inspection and approval testing for permitted hauled waste disposal facilities. 4. Records precipitation every two hours, including current plant effluent and total flow. Records blower readings and daily flows, calculating and collecting amount of sample to be saved, and conducting pH test. 5. Utilizes computer programs, gauges, and meters to collect and record wastewater plant operational data, and utilizes routine data to make operational changes. 6. Operates pumps, valves, and chemical set points within the wastewater treatment plant, and transfers sludge between tanks. 7. Performs general maintenance on the wastewater treatment plant buildings and grounds; cleans tanks, screens, sludge, grit and grease collectors as needed. 8. Performs basic laboratory functions, including collecting and preparing wastewater samples from designated sampling places, and analyzing/identifying concentrations of chemical, physical, or biological characteristics according to requirements. 9.
Completes administrative duties to include:
scheduling meetings, reviewing reports, completing various reports and daily logs, maintaining an accurate filing system for all documents. 10. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Town Manager/Public Works Director, or their designee. 11. Communicates with and between all town offices/departments, and other employees within the department, and the Town Manager/Public Works Director, as needed. 12. Attends all meetings, conferences, training sessions, etc., as required by the Town Manager/Public Works Director.

Up to $65,985.92 per year
