EXAMPLES OF WORK

Position is responsible for operating and maintaining the Wastewater Department's subsurface television camera systems, pressure testing equipment, and smoke testing equipment. Technician evaluates results of inspections to identify defects, causes of stoppages or cave-ins. The incumbent works with substantial independence and may occasionally oversee the duties of line repair crews. Position reports to a Wastewater Collections General Foreman and/or Wastewater Line Maintenance Foreman. Drives the truck with television camera equipment, sets-up on location at either a manhole, cleanout or opening. Communicates findings of inspections to the supervisor in writing. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent, literacy and a valid Louisiana driver's license are required. Must meet the general requirements of the City's auto insurance company. Knowledge of electricity or electronics, experience in the operation of small camera television system, and some experience in the use of computers is desired. Knowledge of wastewater collection methods and materials. Possession of Class II Wastewater Collection Certification, as issued by the State of Louisiana, within two years of appointment is highly desired in this class. Ability to perform inspection and record keeping without error is necessary. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees of different departments, public officials, and the public is necessary.

Essential Functions:

Positions require prolonged sitting in operator's station using uncompromised manual dexterity and strength, as well as concentration and attention. Some heavy lifting, climbing, digging, exertion, and working in confined spaces are required. Tasks require vision of at least 20/40 in each eye and depth perception of 80 seconds of arc or better; hearing and speaking abilities within normal limits. Lifting up to 110 lbs. is required.
