Job Description

UTILITY I
(Unlicensed) SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the WWTP Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, this position performs a variety of work with the wastewater treatment facility and water production facility to ensure appropriate chemical allocations and state permit requirements. This position also maintains the facility grounds for the City of Saline.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or
G.E.D. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
At least 2 years of experience with the maintenance of mechanical equipment, laboratory equipment, or in a related facility performing similar duties.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS TRAINING
High School Diploma or

Class D preferred, required within 36 months of hire Water D-4 preferred, required within 36 months of hire DRIVING Valid Driver's License

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
[ The fundamental job duties the individual must be able to perform, with or without accommodation; removal of these functions would fundamentally change the job ] Participates in the operation and maintenance of the City's Pollution Control Facility, including the treatment of wastewater, laboratory analysis of wastewater, and the operation of pump and lift substations. Participates in the operation of the Water Production Facility, inspecting and maintaining water production areas including wells, water tower, and laboratory. Routine daily assignments including performance of daily plant operations, routine maintenance, grounds keeping, and assisting with scheduled or emergency equipment repair. Collecting wastewater and water samples and performing laboratory analyses required by the City of Saline's NPDES Permit and Michigan Department of Public Health. Introducing or adjusting chemicals in the water production system and wastewater treatment system; recording of daily operational data for Monthly Reports. Performance of basic facility maintenance activities at treatment facilities and all related above ground assets. 24/7 on-call emergency response; on-call requirements typically scheduled in advance. Regular and routine onsite attendance.

Spreadsheet software R Internet Software R The City is looking to hire a Utility I or II, depending on qualifications. Work involves operation and maintenance of the Wastewater and Water Treatment Facilities. The selected employee will be required to work a five-day workweek which includes rotating weekends. Duties include operation and maintenance of water and wastewater equipment, sewage lift stations, biological and chemical laboratory analysis, and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent;
Utility I:
At least 2 years of acceptable experience in wastewater/ water treatment; Class D and
D-4 EGLE
certification required or the ability to obtain within 2 years of employment;
Utility II:
At least 4 years of acceptable experience in wastewater/water treatment; Class C and
D-3 EGLE
certification required; Class B and D-2 certifications preferred; Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver's License. Position requires a high level of physical ability. Residency required within (20) twenty miles of the City of Saline, as defined by the City's personnel policy.
PERSONAL DEMANDS
Must be available to work unscheduled hours and provide a telephone number where employee can be reached during an emergency or after hour call in. Applicants must have the ability to perform manual labor often in adverse conditions. The City of Saline is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
