Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting wastewater treatment equipment and related processes at an assigned site in the Pascagoula, MS area. This position performs routine inspections, sampling, testing, preventive maintenance, documentation, and emergency response support in accordance with company procedures, OSHA standards, and applicable state and federal requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot wastewater treatment equipment and processes. Perform routine inspections, sampling, monitoring, and testing as required. Document test results, equipment checks, operational data, and compliance-related records. Assist with regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, pumps, and machinery. Identify equipment issues, malfunctions, or needed repairs and report them to the appropriate supervisor. Follow company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, site protocols, and daily operating procedures. Respond to equipment breakdowns, plant emergencies, and operational issues as needed. Conduct weekend checks, rotating on-call duties, or overtime as required. Keep equipment, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and safe. Communicate with supervisors regarding treatment processes, equipment concerns, repairs, and operational improvements.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
High school diploma or GED required. Experience operating wastewater treatment equipment required. Prior environmental, industrial, hazardous waste, or wastewater treatment experience preferred. 40-hour
OSHA HAZWOPER
training preferred or required based on site assignment. Current 8-hour
HAZWOPER
refresher preferred or required, if applicable. Mississippi wastewater operator certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification if required. Working knowledge of wastewater treatment operations, equipment, pumps, and basic maintenance. Ability to perform and document tests, inspections, and operational checks. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, dependability, and mechanical aptitude.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a wastewater treatment, field, and/or industrial environment. The position may involve exposure to hazardous materials, loud noise, unpleasant odors, adverse weather, slippery surfaces, chemicals, machinery, and other safety-sensitive conditions. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and perform manual work for extended periods. Must be able to use hands to operate tools, equipment, and controls. Must have visual acuity for near and far distances and remain alert to surroundings. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds as needed. Must be able to work safely while wearing required
PPE. OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be available for emergency response, weekend checks, overtime, or rotating on-call duties as needed. Must comply with all company, client, site, safety, training, and access requirements. Must successfully complete any required background check, drug screen, medical monitoring, or site-specific clearance requirements. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection if required. First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
