Job Description

The DAF Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment system. This position will treat the wastewater generated by the plant to be compliant for discharge to the City of Charlotte Water working to constantly improve site safety, process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Works closely and communicates with production teams to ensure proper water treatment operation. Take a weekly inventory of chemicals that will be used to operate the DAF. Communicate with vendors to order chemicals as needed. Performs necessary and preventative maintenance to the wastewater system. Maintain and clean wastewater system and the surrounding environment to maintain its integrity. Monitor water treatment processes and inspect equipment regularly. Perform routine sampling of the effluent water to ensure permit compliance. Monitor and maintain daily flow readings. Work with outside vendors(s) to schedule and maintain consistent DAF sludge disposal. Be able to start and stop the process and equipment safely and without supervision. Interact with the HMI to control chemical dosing, operate equipment, and respond to alarms. Perform jar tests, as needed, to determine proper chemical dosing. Troubleshoot process and equipment issues as needed. Safely handle and store chemicals. Complete daily checklist for tasks pertaining to cleanliness and reliability of the wastewater unit. Complete weekly Tank 4-9 DMAPA scrubber sampling as well as dropping and recharging the scrubber. Complete weekly pH calibration. Complete daily shift report documenting critical events, totalizer readings, and sample results. Coordinate with Operations to ensure washes are dropped to the proper tanks. Perform plant walkthroughs to ensure sumps are in good condition. Work with EHS department as needed for regulatory/sampling compliance. Coordinate with third parties as needed during sampling weeks.
Key Qualifications:
3 - 5 years' experience preferably in production/process area of specialty chemical products or wastewater processing. Wastewater Certification strongly preferred. DOT and RCRA training preferred. Plant Operation knowledge. Experience operating pumps, agitators, pH probes, valves, etc. Experience understanding of pH and affects it, and troubleshooting process equipment including pumps, instruments, etc. Excellent organizational, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, identify key details, write procedures, read/understand manuals, and maintain proper records. Forklift operating experience. Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds; squatting and kneeling.
Pay:
$22.65 - $27.28 per hour
