WATER & SEWER SERVICEWORKER 1
Pay Range:
$27.35 - $38.49 NATURE OF WORK This is semi-skilled, equipment operation, and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of the city's water and sewer systems. Work also involves responsibility for performing a variety of tasks in maintaining water and sewer facilities. An employee of this class uses journeyman tools at less than journeyman level and operates trucks and other equipment as an adjunct to the work. Work involves contact with the public and contractors in answering service requests, monitoring contractor work, and inspecting water and sewer installations. Supervision is received from an administrative superior through evaluation of work performed.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive : Installs, services, and repairs water meters; investigates complaints involving water consumption, low water pressure and sewer problems; turns services on and off when required Inspects and maintains lift stations; repairs damaged parts and sets controls. Inspects, cleans, and unplugs sewers; inspects and repairs storm sewer pumps. Checks and repairs fire hydrants. Makes water taps and repairs water mains, valves, and hydrants. Inspects water and sewer lines installed by contractors to ensure code compliance; completes permits and measures and diagram installations. Assists in pulling and repairing well pumps. Maintains pump houses; takes water samples and test chemicals and maintains chemical pumps. Performs required work such as mowing, snow removal and maintaining equipment; regular attendance mandatory and other duties as assigned. Performs other work which is consistent with the essential functions of the job. Utilize GIS equipment and software This position requires the employee to be on call in rotation with other Service workers.DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of general maintenance and construction, labor tools, equipment, and practices. Knowledge of water and sewer installation and maintenance activities. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to the proper execution of assignments. Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and maintenance requirements and to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals. Ability to maintain work records; pump maintenance records; water quality sampling records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate with the public and to communicate both orally and in writingMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent including experience in water and sewer maintenance work or in work which provides a familiarity with the trades and equipment and machinery operation; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employee must possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Driver's License when operating a vehicle. When operating equipment that falls under the Nebraska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) status, the employee is required to possess and maintain the proper license and endorsements as a mandatory condition of employment. Employee must obtain and maintain a Grade IV Water Operators license issued by the State of Nebraska within 1 year of hire. Employee must obtain a Grade III Water Operators license issued by the State of Nebraska within 3 years of hire, and meet all other qualifications for the Water-Sewer Serviceworker 2 classification. License must be maintained throughout employment. Meet current residency requirement. Employees must live or reside on-call within 2 miles of the City limits of Fremont, Nebraska for this position.Pay:
