Job Description

Under general supervision, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator operates and maintains wastewater treatment facility and collection lift stations.
Examples of Work Performed:
Adjust and maintains all wastewater treatment equipment to ensure effective and efficient wastewater treatment to maintain compliance with NPDES permit. Lubricates, changes oil, and performs maintenance and repairs on sewage lift stations, aerators, pumps, motors, blowers and all wastewater treatment facility equipment Troubleshoots and repairs electronic components of wastewater and water systems. Monitors and operates the SCADA system Maintains parts, materials, supplies and equipment manuals Maintains grounds and facilities; monitors flow; maintains logbook and prepares US EPA and NDEQ reports. Monitors quantity and quality of influent from major sources Schedules and collects samples and performs laboratory analyses of sewage influent and effluent and potable water Controls rate of release of effluent; ability to calculate wastewater charges for major and industrial contributors Responds to afterhours calls and emergencies. Performs other work which is consistent with the essential elements of the job. Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Knowledge of state and federal wastewater and water standards. Knowledge of the operating principles and theories of a wastewater treatment plant. Knowledge of the established routines and practices for the operation of the equipment and related testing and measuring devices in the wastewater treatment plant. Knowledge of biology or chemistry as it applies to wastewater treatment and water pollution control. Ability to establish, adjust and monitor SCADA control system. Ability to work without supervision and to supervise others. Ability to use testing equipment, tools and computer and to operate a vehicle and other related equipment. Ability to communicate in person, by telephone, and two-way radio; ability to monitor equipment alarms; ability to read and understand instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics, environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry or related fields supplemented by a short course in laboratory procedures and experience in wastewater or water systems. Previous activated sludge wastewater treatment plant experience is preferred.
Special Requirements:
Possession of or the ability to obtain a Nebraska Grade 2 Wastewater Operator's Certification within one year of hire Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License as required by the State. Other licenses or certificates may be required as need arises.
Pay:
$24.19 - $32.57 per hour
