I. PURPOSE SUMMARY.
Under the direction of the Utilities Operations Manager, responsible for routine operation, maintenance, and repair of water/wastewater systems.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES.
Operate, maintain and clean a variety of equipment, machinery and tools such as liquid sludge application equipment, clarifiers, mechanical bar screens, aeration equipment, chemical feed equipment, pumps and motors. Inspect, test, and aid operations of the water/wastewater systems to determine compliance with Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA), state and federal standards. Conduct measurement of water level drops in various configurations of manhole and the calculations to the measurements to water losses. Ensure and monitor the flow and collection of water samples. Prepare as-built drawings and ensure addition of information onto the CRRUA utility base maps. Locate and map existing water/wastewater facilities as required. Implement the water department back flow prevention/cross connection control program. Responsible for completing and maintaining accurate records in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), state and federal requirements. Daily check on lift stations reports customer complaints to immediate supervisor.
III. ADDITIONAL DUTIES.
Perform other related duties as assigned. Will be required to provide 24-hour emergency stand-by duties when assigned.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education. High School or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). B. Experience. One (1) year of full-time experience in utilities inspection, operations or maintenance. C. Education/Experience Substitution. In accordance with CRRUA policy. D. Licenses/Certifications. Valid unrestricted drivers license. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with CRRUA policy. Current New Mexico Water/Wastewater Level 1 certification or must obtain within six (6) months of employment. E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, drivers license record, etc.). Must pass a background check and driving record check. 1.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Must have knowledge of: Current water/wastewater systems and operating procedures Pertinent federal state and local laws codes and regulations Must have skills in: Business English spelling grammar punctuation and basic arithmetic Mathematical calculations associated with operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities Must have ability to: Analyze and evaluate information accurately express ideas clearly when providing oral written reports recommendations Use initiative judgment working independently while recognizing matters which require awareness Utilities Operations Manager Communicate effectively both orally writing Establish maintain effective cooperative working relationships others Responsible knowing abiding all CRRUA policies procedures 2.
FREEDOM TO ACT.
The Supervisor provides continuing individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done limitations quality quantity expected deadlines priority assignments. The supervisor provides additional specific instructions for new difficult unusual assignments including suggested work methods review assignment material available. The employee uses initiative and judgment working independently and refers questions or unfamiliar situations to the supervisor. The supervisor assures finished work methods used are technically accurate compliance instructions established procedures. Review work increases with more difficult assignments the employee has not previously performed. 3.
GUIDELINES AND JUDGMENT.
Procedures doing work have been established guidelines are available. The employee uses them to perform tasks. 4.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; or recurring lifting objects over fifty (50) pounds. Employee will utilize a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Visual acuity needed to determine fine motor/pump alignment, live electrical wiring, and color acuity to determine residual of field-testing. 5.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear. Essential duties are performed outdoors most of the time under fluctuating temperature and weather conditions. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, explosives, methane gas chemicals acids and hydrogen sulfide. 6.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No supervision exercised. Responsible for own work.
