This is a full-time , hands-on position responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the District's water distribution and treatment systems. The work is performed in the field under a wide range of conditions, including emergency response. This position is suited for individuals who are mechanically capable, dependable, and able to work independently with limited oversight.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Install, maintain and repair water system infrastructure, including mains, services, hydrants, valves, and related components. Operate and maintain pumps, tanks, and treatment systems. Monitor SCADA systems and respond to alarms. Perform Dig Safe mark-outs and utility locating. Conduct water quality sampling, testing, and inspections. Identify and repair leaks and respond to system emergencies. Maintain accurate records, work orders, and documentation. Interact with customers, contractors, and the public in a professional manner. Maintain District facilities and property.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license (must be eligible to operate a vehicle in Rhode Island.) Relevant water system, construction, mechanical, or utility experience preferred. RI Distribution License required or obtained within established timeframe. RI Treatment License required or obtained within established timeframe. Backflow Surveyor Certification required within applicable timeframe.
Experience:
Senior Operator:
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience. RI Grade 2 Distribution License (required.)

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. RI Grade 2 Distribution License (required.)

Operator II:
Entry level; experience preferred. RI Grade 1 Distribution License (preferred or obtained within 12 months.) RI Grade 1 Treatment License (preferred or obtained within 12 months.)
WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Trench work, confined spaces, and active roadways. Ability to lift heavy materials and equipment. Climb and work on a 45-foot water tank. Participation in on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to respond to the District within 20 minutes of an emergency call.

Weeks of Annual Vacation Retirement Savings:
NTFD has established a salary reduction simplified employee pension (SARSEP) plan for its employees. Employees become eligible for retirement after their 6-month probationary period. NTFD will make a monthly, non-elective contribution of 10% to an employees' retirement account. This is based on an employee's base salary. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
