Job Description
Operates and maintains the city water treatment facilities as required by city, state, and federal guidelines; Performs periodic tests on water treatment facility pumps, motors, and water, and takes appropriate reading of gauges and meters; Records plant telemetry information from satellite pumping stations, and maintains records of water treatment facility operations; May assist with training of other operators and assistants; Performs routine inspections of water treatment facilities, monitors pumps, tanks, valves, appurtenances, chemicals, clarifiers and filters, visually and with computer system, and adjusts equipment and chemicals to maintain specified operating conditions; Performs various chemical analyses including pH, alkalinity, chlorine, turbidity, fluorides, taste and odor control, and hardness tests, and ensures proper calibration of measuring feed equipment; Routinely calibrates online monitoring analyzers; Monitors distribution for the plant with the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) System; Calculates various daily, weekly, and monthly chemical usage and water statistics, and records data on logs and charts; Ensures cleanliness of water facilities and cleans equipment as necessary; Performs corrective and preventive maintenance of water treatment equipment; Assists in preparing reports to state and federal regulatory agencies as required; Operates small boat to check raw water intake (water plant only); Operates backhoe and other heavy equipment; Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. This position is for an overnight shift.
Qualifications:
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses High School Diploma or its equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in water treatment operations; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Water Treatment- Class B Surface Water Treatment License (TCEQ), required. Valid Texas Driver s License with an acceptable driving record.Supplemental Information Knowledge of:
methods, practices, and equipment used in water treatment facilities; plumbing; welding; handling hazardous materials, minor electrical repair; basic chemistry; pumps and motors; water chemical analyzing equipment; city, state, and federal water treatment specifications and regulations; and laboratory testing and procedures.Skill/Ability to:
learn and comply with state and federal regulations applicable to water treatment facilities; perform simple mathematical calculations; operate personal computer and computerized equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; operate and repair water treatment equipment, knowledge of the safe use of electrical control systems, proper use and analysis of laboratory equipment used in the performance and monitoring of water treatment facility and water quality. Work Conditions Physical Demand Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and drag and pull up to 100 lbs. Able to sit for periods of time driving to various sites. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, squat, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. Environmental Demand Able to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions. Uniforms provided. Indoor and outdoor conditions. Works in environments where exposure to industrial chemicals is routine; responsible for safely handling, transporting, and operating equipment in accordance with hazardous materials protocols and company safety standards.
