JOB SUMMARY
Assists in the operation and maintenance of the City's activated sludge plant and lift stations. Assists in the maintenance of the City's collection system. Assists in the operations of the vactor truck. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Pump and Motor Supervisor/Wastewater Superintendent.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES 1.
Assists in the performance of any combination of the following tasks pertinent to controlling operations of an activated sludge plant, associated lift stations, and collections system: 2. Collects samples of plant influent, partially treated wastewater, sludge, effluent, and other by-products. 3. Operates equipment and conducts tests as directed. 4. Cleans, maintains, and stores instruments and equipment. 5. Performs custodial duties in the laboratory. 6. Assists the wastewater operations technician as needed. 7. Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. 8. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine processing requirements. 9. Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control. 10. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. 11. Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings. 12. Establishes and maintains job site safety including traffic control. 13. Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department. 14. Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this job. 15. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education, Degrees, Certificates and/or
Licenses:
High school diploma. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with a driving record satisfactory to the City of Harker Heights and must be able to obtain a Texas CDL-B within one (1) year. Requires Texas "D" Wastewater license within six (6) months and Texas "C" Wastewater license within two (2) years and must be able to obtain Texas Class III Wastewater Collection license or Texas "B" Wastewater Treatment Certification within five (5) years six (6) months from date of employment.
Experience:
Two (2) years experience related to wastewater collections or wastewater treatment preferred but not required. The City of Harker Heights offers a variety of competitive benefit packages for regular full-time employees which include: Health Insurance
