DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains daily log of calls, reports, operations and/or messages. Under supervision, conducts field runs to facilities to calculate and record daily usage. Under supervision, compares readings on equipment and processes with established operational ranges to evaluate system performance. Monitors and maintains equipment and the surface water treatment plant, and reports malfunctions to expedite repairs. Monitors mechanical and chemical process in more than one location. Inspects and tests working conditions on all equipment. Compares readings on equipment and processes with established operational ranges to evaluate system performance. Initiates system changes within established guidelines that affect process control. Collects, analyzes and monitors data relevant to maintaining efficient distribution operations. Communicates and coordinates work with other operators and support personnel by telephone and e-mail. Performs other duties as requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires lifting of heavy items of up to 60 pounds and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing of ladders. This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

No experience is required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. Requires a valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "D" Water/Wastewater Operator's certificate within twelve (12) months from entry into this classification. Within Twenty-four (24) months after either obtaining the Class D certification or entry into this classification, a TCEQ Class "C" Water/Wastewater Operator's certificate must be obtained. Certificates must be appropriate to position location, such as surface water, groundwater, distribution, or wastewater treatment. Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.•

None However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
