Kenedy, TX Description of Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, the Utility Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all aspects of the city's water production, treatment, and distribution systems. Key duties include monitoring water quality, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory standards. This position involves technical tasks in the treatment process and handling mechanical equipment to maintain efficient plant operations and meet water quality standards.

Experience:
At least six (6) months of hands-on experience in water or wastewater utility operations or maintenance is essential. This experience should include practical exposure to operational tasks such as monitoring treatment systems, maintaining equipment, or conducting water quality tests. Familiarity with the basics of water or wastewater treatment processes is critical to ensure regulatory compliance, safety, and effective plant operation. -
Education:
High School Diploma or GED. -
Licenses and Certifications:
o Must possess a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License (or equivalent from another state) by the time of appointment. o Class "D" Water or Wastewater Operator License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is required at the time of appointment. o Class "C" Water or Wastewater Operator License issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is required within 18 months of appointment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Proficient knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electromechanical equipment. Understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, control mechanisms, and preventive maintenance. Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations governing water and wastewater treatment processes. Skills in safely handling and operating technical laboratory equipment, hazardous chemicals, and various water treatment equipment. Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics for equipment setup, calibration, and repairs. Clear oral and written communication skills for effective documentation of daily activities and laboratory records. Ability to work effectively with coworkers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public.
Other Job Characteristics:
Regular bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting of objects up to 55 pounds. Frequent exposure to extreme weather, hazardous chemicals, toxic fumes, high voltage, and moving machinery common to water treatment facilities. Willingness to work on a rotating stand-by shift schedule, including weekends and holidays, and to respond to after-hours or emergency calls.
