Job Description

The City of Schulenburg is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Wastewater Operator to expand our team and perform duties essential in operating and maintaining the City's Wastewater Collection system Reads and maintains various flow meters / gages at wastewater plants, lift stations, collect samples, and other utility appurtenances; Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on sewer lines, including unclogging lines using hydro jets, routers, and hand tools, light, and heavy equipment, repairing pumps, performing minor plumbing maintenance at city facilities, collects samples; exercising and/or replacing valves, repairing lift station pumps, entering confined spaces; Maintains grounds at sewer plants, lift stations, and other facilities; Repairs sewer leaks, including digging holes and trenches, using backhoes and other equipment, and placing necessary shoring; Fills out required work orders; Staff the on-call rotation list subject to un-scheduled off-duty emergencies; and Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Physical Demands:
Work involves finger/hand manipulation in using hand tools and operating equipment Work involves standing and/or walking in repairing and maintaining equipment Work involves climbing, crouching, and crawling, or other non-sitting positions in repairing and maintaining equipment Work involves lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Work involves pushing and pulling up to 100 lbs. Work involves performing work at chest level or higher, including overhead full arm extension holding up to 25 lbs. Work involves climbing ladders Work involves confined space entry

Requirements:
High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least two (2) years of experience in wastewater utility operations or construction; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical:
Employee must be able to pass a physical examination and drug test given by a physician designated by the city. Valid TCEQ Class C Wastewater Operator License. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License, with an acceptable driving record.
