The Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) is a cutting-edge water recycling facility transforming the way the world thinks about sustainable water solutions. Established in 1978, UOSA serves Fairfax County, Prince William County, and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park and is the first and longest-operated indirect potable reuse project in the United States. UOSA has been treating and reclaiming water for use as drinking water for nearly 50 years. From being recognized as a Utility of the Future to pioneering advanced research and technology in the industry, our facility now recycles up to 54 million gallons of water per day. UOSA's efforts ensure a reliable supply of high-quality recycled water, contributing to the overall drinking water strategy for the Northern Virginia area.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Delivery Systems Operator performs preventive and corrective maintenance tasks of Delivery Systems stations and wastewater lines; does related work as required. The incumbent will be exposed to a wastewater biological and chemical hazardous environment. Also responsible for security and all operations for the Delivery Systems Section. The DS Operator Trainee performs under the immediate instruction/supervision of Delivery Systems Operators, as directed by the Delivery Systems Manager. An Operator Trainee gains on-the-job experience as tasks of increasing difficulty are assigned. The DS Operator III is expected to use good judgement in operating and maintaining equipment. The work is performed in accordance with procedures outlined by the Delivery Systems Manager to whom unusual or emergency problems are referred, but employees in this class are expected to be competent to make basic repairs and adjustments to the equipment with detailed instruction while still gaining some on the job experience. Receives supervision from the Delivery Systems Manager and Delivery Systems Assistant Manager. The DS Operator II has successfully completed the UOSA Delivery Systems Operator II test and is expected to use sound judgement in operating and maintaining equipment. The work is performed in accordance with procedures outlined by the Delivery Systems Manager to whom unusual or emergency problems are referred, but employees in this class are expected to be technically competent to make minor repairs and adjustments to the equipment with detailed instruction. Receives supervision from the Delivery Systems Manager and Delivery Systems Assistant Manager.
REQUIREMENTS DS
Operator Trainee Completion of high school or GED is required. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. Must have knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical equipment; skill in the use of power and hand tools; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; must possess mechanical aptitude. Possession of a Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Tanker Endorsement "N" is required within six (6) months of hire or promotion into this position. DS Operator III Some experience in a related field and completion of high school or GED is required. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. Must have successfully completed the UOSA Delivery Systems Operator III test and is expected to use good judgment in operating and maintaining equipment. Must have good knowledge of the operation of Delivery Systems equipment; pump station locations, force mains, interceptors and blueprints; good judgment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; dependability; and mechanical aptitude. Required to obtain a Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B license and an Endorsement N (permitting Operator to drive a tank vehicle) within six (6) months of hire or promotion into this position. DS Operator II Experience at the Operator III level and completion of high school or GED is required. Successful completion of the Delivery systems Operator II examination, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. Possession of a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (DSL) Class b with Tanker Endorsement "N" is required. Possess Water Professional Internation "Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Collection Systems" Volume I. Possess VDOT Intermediate Certification. Required to assist on-call operators during non-duty hours including weekends and holidays. Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds.
