Job Description

Overview The Town of Keysville is seeking qualified candidates to fill a Plant Operator/Town Maintenance position for the Wastewater Utility Plant & Town Maintenance Department. This position will perform work of moderate difficulty in general maintenance and operating the wastewater treatment plant in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances and regulations. Duties include but not limited to:
  • Monitoring, documenting and optimizing wastewater plant process controls to include adjusting wastewater flow rates, chemical dosage set points, air compressor discharge pressures, and blower output settings;
  • Maintaining compliance with the Virginia Dept. of Environmental Quality VPDES permit and the EPA's federal regulations;
  • Recognizing and correcting negative impacts to wastewater quality;
  • Sampling, collecting, documenting chain of custody information, transporting, and performing lab testing and analysis on wastewater, sludge, and biosolids samples;
  • Monitoring and operating plant equipment and control panels;
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on plant equipment and town facilities;
  • General maintenance, housekeeping and grounds as needed. Preferred (not required) Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes;
  • Knowledge of general safety practices;
  • Ability to safely use hand tools;
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Minimum of Class 3 Virginia Wastewater Works Operator License;
  • At least 1 year experience in wastewater treatment plant operations;
  • Experience with utility plant maintenance;
  • Basic general maintenance knowledge Minimum Training and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Virginia's Driver's License;
  • Desire & Ability to learn new systems, work independently if needed;
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays. Preferred Training and Experience
  • Minimum of Class 3 Virginia Wastewater Works Operator License;
  • At least 1 year experience in wastewater treatment plant operations;
  • Experience with utility plant maintenance;
  • Basic general maintenance knowledge Licensing and Certifications
  • Candidates without a Virginia Wastewater Operator License will be required to obtain Class 4 Wastewater Works Operator License within 9 months of their initial hire date.
  • Candidate will also be required to obtain Class 3 Wastewater Works License within 18 months of their initial hire date.
  • Tuition reimbursement provided with an executed employment contract.
  • Failure to obtain either licensure requirement will result in termination of employment. Compensation
  • Salary range $15 - $20 hourly, depending on experience
