96 per hour (with Merit raises) Obtaining Class II, III, and IV wastewater operator licenses will increase pay grade. If no class I license you will start out as OIT(operator in training) at $18.32 per hour Job Purpose This position shall be responsible for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant to maintain compliance with all requirements of the NPDES Permit issued by the West Virginia Department Environmental Protection, must also maintain compliance with any and all pertinent regulations from other regulatory agencies, including the United States Environmental Protection Agency and West Virginia Bureau for Public Health. Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following) Perform skilled work in the operation of equipment used in a wastewater treatment plant. Perform routine checks throughout the WWTP during a shift maintaining a record of data collected. Ability to maintain written record of developments and occurrences in the operation of the WWTP to inform subsequent shifts and supervision. Ability to utilize SCADA system to monitor and make adjustments, when necessary, to the operation of the wastewater treatment process. Perform routine/process/special sample collection, as may be required, in accordance with PUB's WWTP Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance work of the facilities and grounds. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees and the public. Must exercise independent judgement and initiative in carrying out daily tasks. Required to perform, as may be necessary, work described at a lower grade which the employee is capable of performing. Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Thorough knowledge of safety requirements in a treatment plant and the proper use of any appropriate PPE. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees and the public.

Experience and Education:

Any combination of training, experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Formal or informal education or training at a level which ensures the ability to read, write and perform mathematical computations, and supplemental coursework to meet certification requirements.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of West Virginia or state of residence if other than West Virginia. Certification by the State of West Virginia as a Class I thru IV Wastewater Operator. All operators are required to attain a Class IV license within 6 years from the time they start in an operator's position. Certification by the State of West Virginia as a Laboratory Analyst, desirable but not required. Working Conditions This position requires employees to work a rotating 12 hour shift. Required to work overtime to cover shifts, when needed. The work required for this position shall be conducted both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather conditions. Physical Requirements Medium The ability to lift 50 pounds. The ability to move safely over uneven terrain. The ability to safely climb ladders and stairs multiple times daily. The ability to respond quickly to sounds. The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. The ability to work in extreme weather. Ability to wear personnel protective equipment correctly, when required. Direct Reports This position has no supervisory responsibility.
