Full-time Structural Steel Layout/Fitter Experience Criteria:
Attention to detail and must be extremely organized and committed to safety at all times Ability to communicate effectively and professionally Flexibility to handle shifting priorities and situations and work well with other affiliate team members while able to achieve project deadlines and maintaining a high standard of quality Must know how to read and interpret structural steel drawings Experience with overhead crane, jib hoist and forklift At least 5 years experience in structural steel layout/fitting of stairs, columns, handrails and beam fabrication Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals Ability to perform precise measurements using weld gauges, tape measure, square, protractor, and digital levels. Must know how to use general shop tools and additional skills that are a benefit would be to operate a CNC plasma table, beam-line and much more. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form Must complete all company required weld tests Description of duties and responsibilities: Receives instructions, prints, sketches and work orders then reads and interprets blueprints and plans in the fitting operation Reads and interprets blueprints and plans the fitting operation. Handling, spreading, measure, cut, layout, position, align, fit, and weld, grind or place bolts in proper location to fabricate and assemble columns, beams, girders, stairs, handrails and other structural steel components per plans Bolt, clamp and tack-weld parts to secure in position for welding Lays out work lines or fits up jigs for positioning material when required; checks, squares, and scribes all detail connections. Set-up of a welding machine in proper parameters of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). Burns and tack welds for assembly purposes. Burns, copes and bevels and straightens material. Spot paints for identification marks. Follow welding procedures. Moves material to and from the work area. Moves welding equipment to material when necessary. Positions component parts on a table held by a fixture or jib, tacking when required. Chips, peens and grinds material to prepare for welding or finish. Straightens materials by heat or flame. May perform scarfing. Keeps work area clean. Must be proficient in the full skills of the trade Added bonus if you can weld in all positions with a high degree of proficiency utilizing full skills of the trade including knowledge of common heat reactions of structural metals, and is certifiable
