Our work ranges from shipyard overhauls to complex field operations throughout the San Francisco Bay and Delta. Position Summary We are seeking a dual-role professional to lead our welding production while driving the growth of the shipyard through accurate project bidding. You will be responsible for overseeing high-quality welding operations for ship repair and occasional new construction, as well as developing detailed cost estimates and proposals for future contracts.
Pay Range:
$46 - $55 per hour

Mare Island (Vallejo, CA) Reports to:
Director of Shipyard & Manufacturing Weld Production Supervision:
Team leadership: Direct daily activities for a crew of up to 10+ welders and fitters including contract workers ensuring work matches bid's scope.
Scheduling:
manage manpower and equipment to meet tight dry-docking and delivery deadlines.
QC:
Visually inspect fitment and weld quality, and ensure work meets codes such as ABS, USCG, and AWS.
Leadership/Soft Skills:
Good communication, conflict resolution, and the ability to manage, motivate, and train workers.
Other Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis:
Perform detailed material take-offs and labor estimates from structural blueprints and ship drawings.
Proposal Development:
Help to create competitive bid packages for commercial and possible government contracts (ABS, USCG). Oversight for
Regulatory Sign-offs:
Serve as primary liaison with
ABS/USCG
for steel repair inspections and manage sign-offs for all completed repairs.
Risk Management:
Identify potential technical hurdles during the bid phase to ensure project profitability. Oversee 3rd party
Welder Certifications:
Facilitate the shipyard's welder certifications to maintain ABS compliance.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
7-10 years of structural welding experience in a shipyard or heavy industrial environment, with at least 2 years in supervisory and/or estimating role.
Technical Knowledge:
Proficiency in SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW; ability to read complex marine blueprints and weld symbols.
Code Mastery:
Deep familiarity with AWS D1.1, and ABS standard items.
General Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred with technical school training). Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, and sometimes in varying weather conditions. Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
