Set up and adjust welding equipment, including voltage, amperage, wire feed speed, shielding gas flow, and other parameters to achieve sound welds. Perform root, fill, and cap passes to required size and contour, controlling distortion and heat input as directed by procedures and supervision. Visually inspect welds during and after welding, identifying and correcting defects such as porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, or incomplete penetration. Perform basic grinding, blending, and weld cleanup necessary to meet drawing and cosmetic requirements without compromising weld integrity. Work with jigs, fixtures, positioners, and manipulators to safely achieve required welding positions and productivity. Understanding of weld joint types, weld symbols, and how parameters affect penetration, bead profile, and distortion. Skill in setting up and finetuning welding equipment to produce consistent results. Ability to recognize and troubleshoot common weld defects and process issues. Communication with Processing, FitUp, Quality, Engineering, and supervision to resolve issues quickly. Attention to detail, craftsmanship, and pride in producing quality work that represents the company well to customers.
