Job Title:
Welder Job Description This role focuses on performing MIG welding and light mechanical work to support truck maintenance, construction rental equipment, and customer equipment repairs. You will work largely independently, managing your own day while completing welding and small engine repair tasks on truck beds and related equipment. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on truck beds and related components to support maintenance and repair activities. Assist with maintenance and repair of trucks, construction rental equipment, and customer equipment. Use blueprints and fabrication techniques to produce accurate and durable welds. Diagnose and repair small engines as part of routine maintenance and repair work. Apply proper welding procedures and safety practices when working with MIG, TIG, stainless steel, and other materials as needed. Inspect welded surfaces and components to ensure quality, strength, and compliance with specifications. Maintain welding and mechanical tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition. Plan and manage daily tasks independently to meet repair schedules and service needs. Collaborate with team members and other shop personnel when coordinating larger repair projects. Essential Skills At least 2 years of professional welding experience. At least 2 years of experience in small engine maintenance. Proficiency in MIG welding, including work on truck beds and structural components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints for welding and fabrication work. Experience with general welding and fabrication techniques. Basic knowledge of small engine mechanics and repair. Ability to work independently and manage daily workload with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and repairs. Understanding of and adherence to shop safety practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1 or more years of experience in the construction industry is preferred but not required. Experience with TIG welding is beneficial. Background in automotive repair or related mechanical work is a plus. Ability to weld and work with stainless steel. Comfort working with various types of welding equipment and shop tools. Work Environment You will work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment, performing welding and equipment maintenance throughout the day. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role involves hands-on work with welding equipment, small engine tools, and general shop machinery in an industrial setting. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and appropriate work attire suitable for a fabrication and repair shop. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Council Bluffs, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
