Job Description

Job Title:
Welder Job Description This role focuses on MIG and aluminum welding within a busy fabrication department, working from engineering drawings and bills of materials to fabricate high-quality components. You will set up and adjust welding equipment for different steel thicknesses, support multiple areas of fabrication as needed, and operate various shop tools and material-handling equipment in a clean, safety-focused environment. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on steel and aluminum components according to engineering drawings and bills of materials. Read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication requirements. Adjust welding equipment to accommodate varying thicknesses of steel, including 11-gauge and 7-gauge materials. Carry out aluminum welding as part of the fabrication process. Fabricate parts and assemblies using welding, cutting, and related fabrication techniques. Operate welders, grinders, drills, and a variety of hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks. Use measuring devices to verify dimensions and ensure components meet specifications. Operate an overhead crane and forklift when certified, to move materials and completed assemblies safely. Multi-task between welding and other areas of the fabrication department based on production needs. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines. Essential Skills Proven MIG welding experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment. Ability to perform aluminum welding with consistent quality. Strong blueprint reading skills to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials. Hands-on experience with fabrication processes, including working with 11-gauge and 7-gauge steel. Ability to set up and adjust welding equipment for different materials and thicknesses. Proficiency using grinders, drills, hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices. Capability to operate an overhead crane and forklift when certified. Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality welds. Ability to multi-task and move between welding and other fabrication duties as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications D1.1 welding certification for tank welding is strongly preferred. D1.3 welding certification is a plus. Prior experience in a fabrication shop environment. Comfort working with both steel and aluminum materials. Willingness to train on first shift before moving to third shift. Why Work Here? Standard hours are Monday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., and Friday, 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. New hires train on first shift for 1-2 weeks before transitioning to third shift. The facility is clean and well-organized, with a strong emphasis on safety. The shop can be hot in the summer, but large doors are opened to improve airflow. All necessary tools and equipment are provided, with the exception of personal welding gear. The environment is production-focused, team-oriented, and centered on safe operation of welding equipment, hand and power tools, overhead cranes, and forklifts. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Machesney Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
