About This Position:

The overall function of this position is to fabricate objects to augment or repair mobile equipment, bridge structures, marine vessels, and other Department assets by welding, brazing, grinding and cutting various metal components. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. Job Duties:

Fabricates brackets, racks, cages, braces, grates and other objects from steel and aluminum stock. Uses steel shapes and plates in welding and brazing equipment such as bushhogs, excavation buckets, and other wear components. Takes measurements and prepares sketches necessary to fabricate various objects. Makes recommendations to supervisors concerning material and fabrication options. Determines equipment and supplies needed according to the type of welding job required. Operates a mobile welding machine to repair broken bridge members, marine vessels, equipment, vehicles, etc. in the field.
