Job Description

Job Title:
Welder and Fitter / Fabricator Job Description This role focuses on fitting, fabricating, and welding mechanical lift assist parts and complete ergonomic material handling products such as lift tables and carts You will build products from start to structural finish using MIG and TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel The position requires strong blueprint reading and fitting skills, along with the ability to use shop equipment to cut, bend, and prepare materials in a clean, modern manufacturing environment Job Responsibilities Fabricate and fit lift tables, carts, and other ergonomic material handling equipment from start to structural finish based on engineering drawings and blueprints Interpret blueprints, including weld symbols, to determine material requirements, weld locations, and fabrication steps Perform primarily TIG welding on steel plate, with additional MIG welding as required, on stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel materials Set up welding equipment independently and perform own setups to weld parts to print specifications Fit parts accurately prior to welding, ensuring components align and meet specified tolerances of 0.030 inches or less Use shop equipment such as cut-off saws, drill presses, press brakes, and other machinery to cut, bend, and prepare materials for fabrication Use Oxy Acetylene torches and plasma cutters to cut and prepare materials as needed Perform welds in multiple positions, including overhead and vertical, while maintaining quality and structural integrity Check completed work against blueprints and prints to ensure accuracy and compliance with ISO procedures Apply basic knowledge of filler materials to select appropriate consumables for different metals and weld types Follow AWS guidelines and procedures during welding operations to support consistent quality and safety Maintain and use personal tools required for welding and fitting tasks Contribute to a safe, clean, and organized shop environment by following shop procedures and best practices Work within scheduled hours and adjust to 8-hour or 10-hour days as required, including overtime when available Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Welder, Fitter, or Fabricator Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including weld symbols Strong fitting and fabrication skills to build products from raw material to finished structure At least 5 years of experience operating a TIG (GTAW) welder At least 5 years of experience operating a MIG (GMAW) welder Proficiency in TIG welding steel plate Ability to weld stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel Ability to perform overhead and vertical welding Capability to set up welding equipment independently and weld parts to print Ability to hold tolerances of 0.030 inches or less during fitting and welding Familiarity with AWS welding guidelines and procedures Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Auburn Hills, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
