Job Title:
Structural Fitter/Welder Job Description We are seeking a skilled Structural Fitter/Welder to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for taking prints and assigned projects, gathering materials, and assembling, fitting, and welding to specified requirements. You will work on large steel assemblies for the building trades, including I-beams, trusses, handrails, and stairs within a large, barn-like room using a Sky lift and overhead crane. All welding will be done using MIG welding techniques with wire on structural steel, and you will utilize overhead cranes for setup. Responsibilities Assemble, fit, and weld steel structures to specifications. Execute welding and fitting on large steel assemblies such as I-beams and trusses. Work on handrails and stairs within a large room environment. Perform a significant amount of cutting, trimming, grinding, and fitting of assemblies. Obtain structural steel blueprints from the detailer and lay out steel on a table. Use Flux Core to tack assemblies together before finalizing with MIG welding. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in Structural Blue Print reading with an understanding of Weld Symbols. 1 year of Fitting experience, including laying out steel according to blueprints. 1 year of Structural welding experience using MIG techniques. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in reading drawings and blueprints. Experience with welding wide flange, pipe, handrail, columns, and beams. Familiarity with hand plasma and oxy-acetylene torches. Experience in structural steel fabrication, including die rack builds, machine frames, production welding, and sheet metal welding. Work Environment You will work in a large, single-room shop equipped with CNC machines, overhead cranes, and a large beam line for raw stock processing. The team consists of 4 fitters and 2 welders to maintain production flow. The position offers a 1st shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, with additional hours on Saturday from 6:00 am to 11:00 or 12:00 pm. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saginaw, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
