Primary Objective:
The Stainless Steel Fabricator/Welder is responsible for welding, fabricating, and finishing stainless steel components and vessels to meet company standards, ASME code, and 3-A sanitary requirements. This role combines GTAW and GMAW welding proficiency with grinding, polishing, and fabrication skills to ensure tanks, processors, and silos meet engineering specifications, quality requirements, and customer expectations.
Equipment Used:
Uses all types of welding equipment, weldment positioning and manipulating equipment, air slag hammers, air chipping hammers, rotary air powered brushes, air grinders, air arc gougers, air impact wrenches, overhead power hoists, and hand tools including hammers, wrenches, and hand trucks. Requires the use of measuring devices such as hand tape, square and protractor.
Material Used:
Uses welding rods, wire, fluxes, gases, and works with various types of material which may range from small and light weight to large, unwieldy, and heavy and is involved primarily with steel and stainless steel bar, tubing, angle, and sheet.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Set up and perform GTAW and GMAW welds on stainless steel components, fittings, and vessels. Fit-up vessel sections, heads, and fittings in preparation for welding and assembly. Perform grinding and polishing of welds and surfaces to meet sanitary and ASME code requirements. Utilize plasma cutting tools to cut stainless steel sheet, plate, and fittings. Verify dimensions and finishes against travelers, drawings, and QC inspection requirements. Follow safety standards while working with cranes, forklifts, grinders, welders, and plasma cutting equipment. Document work performed in travelers, labor reports, or QC checklists as required.
Qualifications:
Requires high school or equivalent education together with specialized training in TIG welding or previous TIG experience. Proficiency in GTAW (TIG) welding on stainless steel. Experience with stainless steel vessel fabrication, including fitting, cutting, and polishing. Ability to grind and polish to meet 3-A sanitary and ASME surface finish requirements. Experience with plasma cutting of stainless steel. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, and travelers. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Capable of working safely in a fabrication shop environment with overhead cranes and heavy equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods. Be able to complete a job related physical and drug test.
