Job Description

Eddie Kane Steel Products has been a family owned and operated business providing exceptional service in the steel industry for over 26 years. What to Expect At Eddie Kane Steel, we believe in treating others as we wish to be treated. We strive to continuously improve every day. Our Welder / Fitter role is critical to safely completing fabrication work orders through skilled welding and fitting. What You'll Do As a Welder / Fitter, you will: Read and interpret drawings, weld symbols, cut sheets, and work orders before starting fabrication Lay out, fit, square, level, and tack components according to print requirements Verify dimensions, hole locations, part orientation, and overall fit-up before welding Use tape measures, squares, levels, clamps, fixtures, and basic layout tools accurately Perform
MIG/FCAW
welding on structural steel, plate, tubing, brackets, assemblies, and fabricated components Prepare material for welding by grinding, cleaning, beveling, deburring, and removing slag or mill scale as needed Fit parts tightly and correctly to reduce rework, gaps, distortion, and weld quality issues Understand proper weld size, weld placement, sequencing, and heat control to limit warping Operate grinders, torches, drills, punches, saws, shears, and other fabrication equipment as needed Move material safely using overhead cranes, forklifts, magnets, chains, slings, and other rigging equipment Identify incorrect parts, missing material, print issues, or quality concerns before continuing production Inspect your own work for accuracy, weld quality, straightness, squareness, and overall workmanship Communicate with the supervisor, lead person, and other team members when drawings or job requirements are unclear Maintain production pace while keeping quality and safetyas the priority Keep work area clean, organized, and free of unnecessary material or trip hazards Complete required paperwork, production documentation, and job tracking accurately Assist with other fabrication, welding, material handling, or shop duties as needed What You'll Bring To be successful in this role, you should have: Prior welding and fitting experience in a fabrication, structural steel, or manufacturing environment Ability to read and understand drawings, weld symbols, cut sheets, and work orders Strong attention to detail with layout, fit-up, squareness, dimensions, and workmanship Working knowledge of
MIG/FCAW
welding, grinding, torch cutting, drilling, and general fabrication tools Ability to recognize quality issues, incorrect parts, missing material, or unclear job requirements before continuing work Ability to work safely around cranes, forklifts, rigging, heavy material, and active fabrication areas Good communication skills and the ability to work well with supervisors, lead people, and other team members Ability to work independently while maintaining production pace, quality, and safety standards Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical work, including standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting for extended periods High School Diploma or equivalent preferred 2-3 years of prior welding/fitting experience preferred The health and safety of our Eddie Kane Steel Products employees is of the utmost importance to us and ensure that we have all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and hand sanitizer available to our employees, take employee, visitor and vendor temperatures, disinfect all common areas, practice social distancing and washing hands throughout the day to maintain a safe and healthy work environment!

With it's corporate offices located in Sea Girt, New Jersey, the company has 7 plants throughout the United States located in: North Carolina (2), Ohio, New Jersey, California, Alabama and Kentucky As a steel service center and distributor of hot-rolled prime and non-prime steel plate, Eddie Kane Steel sells on- and off-gauge, pattern and non-pattern plate sizes, ranging in thickness from 3/16 to 8 inches. Eddie Kane Steel maintains a diverse inventory of prime and non-prime steel plate and, for its strategic customer partners, stock inventory of custom-made parts. Value-added products include OEM parts, counterweights, and steel burn outs for diverse industries, including the waste industry, general building construction, transportation, agricultural and industrial equipment, drilling, theatrical stage, and elevator industries. Eddie Kane Steel's flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail. Eddie Kane Steel's processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing. Eddie Kane Steel's diversified product range, processing capabilities, and regional facility locations benefit our customers time-wise and cost-wise. We ship anywhere in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Eddie Kane Steel's logistics department maintains strong relationships with the best transportation companies in the country, which translates to reliable service for our customers.
