Job Title:
Cutter Rebuild Technician Job Description This role works in the Rebuild Department, focusing on welding, rebuilding, and repairing metal components used in industrial equipment. You will perform grinding, weld preparation, and hard-facing on components while ensuring high-quality workmanship and maintaining a safe, clean work area in a fabrication shop environment. Responsibilities Grind and prepare cutters for welding using a 9-inch hand air grinder in accordance with established procedures. Apply hard-facing welds to cutter components to rebuild and extend their service life. Grind cutter profiles using hand air grinders and profile grinders to achieve precise dimensions and finishes. Operate air hoists and forklifts to move heavy parts and assemblies safely within the shop. Use cutting torches and propane pre-heat equipment to prepare and process metal components. Check and verify the quality of all personal welds, ensuring proper size, spacing, and overall weld integrity. Identify cutter size and sweep size accurately before and after rebuild work. Clean parts thoroughly before fabrication to ensure proper weld quality and fit-up. Fabricate parts according to prints and specifications, following shop procedures and standards. Maintain welding equipment, including welder, tips, guns, and hoods, to ensure reliable and safe operation. Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards throughout the shift. Perform general labor tasks, including heavy lifting and material handling, as needed to support rebuild operations. Work comfortably on a hand grinder for most of the shift, especially during initial training and onboarding. Essential Skills Ability to work comfortably in a very labor-intensive role using a 9-inch hand grinder and welder for extended periods. Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds consistently throughout the shift. Interest in metalworking, fabrication, and welding in an industrial shop environment. Experience or strong comfort level with general labor and heavy lifting tasks. Familiarity with metal grinding using hand grinders in a fabrication or industrial setting. Ability to operate or learn to operate air hoists, forklifts, and overhead cranes safely. Attention to detail when checking and verifying weld quality, size, and spacing. Ability to read and follow fabrication prints and basic shop documentation. Comfort working in environments with fumes, airborne particles, noise, and moving mechanical parts. Demonstrated history of performing physically demanding or heavy labor work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in an industrial shop, fabrication shop, or metalworking environment. Background in construction labor, heavy labor, or similar physically intensive roles. Experience as a weld helper, shop helper, or general laborer supporting welding and fabrication operations. Exposure to repair work or rebuild work on metal components, particularly in a heavy industrial context. Interest in developing or improving welding skills while performing hands-on rebuild and repair tasks. Comfort using cutting torches, propane pre-heat equipment, and related metal cutting tools.
