Welder Job Description This role is responsible for joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials by applying appropriate welding techniques. The welder will work primarily on large structural steel components for NAVSEA-related equipment, ensuring high-quality, precise, and durable welds in a demanding fabrication environment. Responsibilities Perform structural welding on large steel components for NAVSEA-related equipment using flux core and pulse welding techniques. Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. Fit and assemble various large structural steel components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and fit-up. Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to complete welding and fabrication tasks accurately. Work with stainless steel and other materials as required, using appropriate welding processes and procedures. Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and adherence to applicable standards, making adjustments or repairs as needed. Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area in safe and proper working condition. Follow all safety procedures and shop guidelines while working in an open-air, non-climate-controlled environment. Collaborate with other welders and fitters to meet production schedules and support a growing welding team. Essential Skills 3-5+ years of experience in structural welding. 3-5+ years of experience in flux core welding. 3-5+ years of experience in pulse welding, including MIG pulse processes. 3+ years of experience in shipyards or related fields fabricating and welding large steel components for NAVSEA-related equipment. Proficiency in structural welding techniques for large steel components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings. Experience with stainless steel welding and fabrication. Strong fitting skills for large structural steel components. Knowledge of NAVSEA-related fabrication and welding requirements. Ability to work safely and effectively in a non-climate-controlled, open-air shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a high-volume fabrication shop environment. Comfort working in both older and brand-new open-air shop buildings. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a large welding and fitting team. Willingness to work additional shifts when available to support production demands. Why Work Here? Work Environment Work takes place in a non-climate-controlled shop composed of open-air buildings, including both older facilities and brand-new structures. The environment is industrial and production-focused, with active fabrication and welding of large structural steel components. Welders use flux core, pulse, and MIG pulse welding processes, along with standard fabrication tools and equipment. The setting supports a large and growing team of welders and fitters, with opportunities for additional shifts on Fridays and Saturdays as production needs allow. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hollywood, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
