Permanent Employment Help for . A 6GR Flux Core welding test is one of the highest-level structural
welding tests, typically used for offshore, pipe, and high-restriction
positions. A welder taking a 6GR test must be able to:
- Weld on a fixed 45 inclined pipe where the pipe cannot rotate.
- Work around a restrictive ring (R-ring) that limits access and
requires strong torch control.
- Perform multi-pass Flux Core (FCAW) welding following WPS
requirements.
- Weld in multiple positions at once (overhead, vertical, uphill, and
downhill sections).
- Maintain proper penetration, fusion, reinforcement, and tie-ins
while working around limited visibility and tight clearance.
- Produce a weld sound enough to pass visual inspection, bend tests,
and/or X-ray depending on company standards.
This test shows the welder can handle high-skill, high-restriction pipe
welding required in marine, offshore, and industrial environments. 2G Flux Core Welder A 2G Flux Core test evaluates a welders ability to weld plate in the
horizontal position. A welder taking a 2G test must be able to:
- Weld a horizontal groove weld on plate (the plate is vertical, the
weld is horizontal).
- Use Flux Core (FCAW) process per the WPS.
- Maintain correct travel speed, heat input, and weave or stringer
technique.
- Perform multiple passes (root, fill, and cap).
- Ensure clean root fusion, proper penetration, and uniform bead
appearance.
- Pass visual inspection, bend tests, or X-ray as required.
Both 6G & 2G tests will be performed to shows the welder can perform consistent, quality horizontal
groove welds used throughout structural fabrication and ship repair.
