This role is ideal for senior welders with strong shipyard experience who are confident passing advanced welding qualifications without remedial training. Required Qualifications To be considered, candidates must meet all requirements below: Minimum 4 years of experience at naval shipyard as a First-Class Welder Proven ability to perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using: SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) GMAW-P (Pulse Arc Welding) ★ Required Air Carbon Arc Gouging experience Proficient with oxygen/propane heating torches Skilled in the proper use of fillet and butt weld gauges Experience working in physically demanding environments, including shipboard spaces, sub-assemblies, ladders, and staging Working knowledge of OSHA regulations specific to the shipbuilding industry High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution Mandatory Welding Qualifications All welders must pass all required welding tests without additional training prior to starting work. Testing will be conducted in accordance with MIL‑STD‑248D, Paragraph 5.3.3.
Required Qualification Tests:
SMAW
  • All positions: 2G (Horizontal), 3G (Vertical), 4G (Overhead) FCAW
  • All positions: 2G, 3G, 4G GMAW
  • 2G (Horizontal) GMAW‑P (Pulse Arc)
  • All positions: 2G, 3G, 4G ★ Required Air Carbon Arc Gouging proficiency test
Testing Overview:
Welding Qualification Tests :
: ~22 hours total Visual Inspection of Welds•
Level I:
4 hours
Vision Test:
~5 minutes
Air Carbon Arc Gouging Test:
1 hour
