All positions are on-site, located in Tyler, Texas, unless otherwise stated in the job posting. ABOUT The position is responsible for assisting instructors and students in the welding lab. Welding processes in the program include GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OFC, CAA, and PAC.
  • This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours a week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Maintain welding booths, demo stations, and tool storage organized for student use in good working order. This includes repairing metal fixtures with plasma arc cutting and GMAW (MIG welding), using hand tools, minor troubleshooting and repair of welding equipment, and cleaning and organizing storage racks, shelves, and cabinets. Assist in the daily operations and support of the Welding Technology Program, including preparing and maintaining lab spaces and equipment. Preparation of materials and machinery for lab exercises. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Inspect equipment and notify the Program Coordinator of problems. Perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment. Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public. Carry out any other tasks as directed by the department to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding process. Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Gas Metal Arc Welding process. Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Flux-Cored Arc Welding process. Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Gs Tungsten Arc Welding process. Ability to manage time.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervision
Work Environment:
Regular work required outside of normal business hours
Physical Demands:
This position includes lifting (65lbs) and the ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, bend, push, pull, kneel, climb, use hands and fingers, and talk/hear for extended periods. Must possess mobility to work in a standard shop setting, as well as an outside environment, which could include extreme hot and cold temperatures, and use standard office equipment, including a computer.

WHO YOU ARE
Required Education Associate's Degree in Welding/Welding Technology
  • OR•High School diploma or GED with one year of industry experience,•OR•industry certifications Required Experience One year of welding experience Preferred Credentials/Licensures Forklift certification Additional Job-Specific Requirements Project a professional image at all times Available to assist with day or evening classes

RETIREMENT
Part-Time Retirement Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company.
