Job Description
Summary Under the direction of the supervisor, lead or experienced welders are responsible for welding metal components together using gas welding equipment to fabricate miscellaneous parts such as platforms, stair rail assemblies, slide gates, swing gates, caged ladders, platform and stair columns, main structural I beams, structural vertical columns and knee braces from blueprints and shop drawings. Job Duties/Responsibilities Weld metal parts together using GMAW welding techniques and any combination of arc welding processes. Interpret blueprints or shop drawings to determine appropriate welding process. Lay out, position, align and clamp together components of fabricated metal parts preparatory to welding. Inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness. Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase the size of metal parts. Perform assigned duties following safe manufacturing processes and housekeeping practices. Complies with all safety requirements and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Currently in a student apprenticeship program. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform basic calculations using a calculator. Read and use tape measure. Basic computer skills in a windows environment/ERP system.
Physical requirements include:
Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds when turning parts over, dependent on the part being handled. Twisting, turning, grasping, reaching, pulling, and extended periods of standing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee in this position must wear OSHA approved safety shoes with metatarsal guards, safety glasses, welding hood, fire retardant welding uniform, gloves, hearing protection, and grinding and/or cutting shield when using grinder or power cutters.Similar jobs in Waukesha, WI
