Job Description

EL RANCHO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Cafeteria Manager
I DEFINITION
Under direction, to manage the operation of an elementary or junior high school cafeteria; to prepare, cook, and serve meals; and to do related work as required.
THE JOB:
Plans, assigns, supervises, and performs work in the preparation, cooking, baking, and serving and sale of Type "A" lunches from a prepared menu; trains and instructs new personnel in methods and procedures of tasks assigned; supervises cleaning of kitchen equipment and eating utensils; requisitions food stuffs and supplies; checks quantities and condition of foods upon arrival; takes inventory of foods and supplies; keeps various records of food service activities; prepares written reports and submits such to Food Services Supervisor; is responsible for collection and preparation of money for banking. Positions are 8 hours a day, 10 months a year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
The proper methods of preparing, cooking, baking, and serving foods; maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition; nutrition and the requirements of a Type "A" lunch; quantity control; methods of supervision; and record keeping.
Ability to:
Prepare large quantities of foods skillfully; operate equipment found in school food service facilities; instruct and supervise a small number of workers; requisition proper amounts of foods and supplies; handle money and keep records; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Experience:
Three years of paid experience as a skilled cook in quantity food preparation and serving or one year at, or equivalent to, the level of Cafeteria Helper II (cooking assignment) in the El Rancho Unified School District.
Education:
Persons with the experience, knowledge, and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.
